Our Synchrotec Fabrics Technical team have an exciting opportunity for a Development Engineer.

About the department and role

The Technical Team are responsible for all product and process development/optimisation and product compliance.

Development Engineers play a key and active role in managing a wide range of projects, from the development stage through to production and commercialisation. You will create and develop new fabric solutions for various applications, coordinate and monitor development trials, optimise product performance and ensure cost expectations and technical specifications are met. The ideal candidate will undertake improvement activities and change management for optimisation and cost reduction.

A key aspect of the role is the opportunity to visit customers and suppliers and attend industry exhibitions. You will be responsible for maintaining contact with suppliers concerning sourcing, specification and quality and will provide customers with appropriate technical support.

Skills, knowledge and experience required

  • Degree-level textile or scientific education or relevant experience in textile manufacturing & design
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Programmes – especially Excel
  • A logical approach
  • Ability to work within a team and on own initiative
  • Able to travel outside the UK

The following are desirable

  • Experience in textile, automotive or rubber industry
  • Good standard of mathematical ability
  • Full driving license
